1.  You will use your UVa Computing ID & Netbadge/SIS Password to:

  • Enter the Student System (SIS)
  • Access the university’s Course Management System (Collab)
  • Read your UVa email (if you choose to establish a UVa Gmail account)

2.  Do you have an Active Netbadge Password already?

  • If you have a password that you have used in the past to access UVa resources you might want to test to see if it is currently an Active Netbadge Password
    1. Click on  Is this password a Netbadge Password
    2. Type in your Computing ID and Password.  If it allows you to login, you have an Active Netbadge Password
  • If you don’t have an Active Netbadge Password move on to the next point
  • If you have an Active Netbadge Password go to  section 12 in this document
  • For a Quick Guide on Obtaining a Password go to section 13

3.  Obtaining a Netbadge/SIS Password

  • You need your Computing ID
  • You need your SIS ID
  • These should have been sent to you in an email from the Student System after you registered for the first time after 08/2009
  • You might want to check your Spam or Junk folder to see if the email is there
  • If you do not have these IDs contact the scpshelpdesk@virginia.edu
  • Once you have the needed IDs
  • Go to http://whois.virginia.edu/scps
  • Complete the form with your Lastname, Firstname, Date of Birth (note year entry is four digits), Computing ID, SIS ID and the email address you used when registering
  • Make your choice of how to read your UVa addressed email (This is an important decision; review the next four sections)

4.  Email is the official communication instrument for all UVa students, staff and
instructors.

  • This is the policy of the University and the Schools of Continuing & Professional Studies and Engineering & Applied Science

5.  UVa Email

  • Your official UVa email address will be your Computing ID@virginia.edu  (for example: edu4u@virginia.edu)
  • All email sent to you from the university and your instructor will be addressed to Computing ID@virginia.edu
  • You can choose how you read your UVa addressed email

6. Choices for UVa Email Delivery

  • On the Obtain Your UVa Password page you are offered two email delivery options
  • Choice 1 “Deliver my virginia.edu email to the Electronic Mail Address that I entered above.”
  • This choice will route your UVa addressed email  (for example, edu4u@virginia.edu) to the email address you gave us when you registered for classes.   With this choice you will read your UVa email along with your other non-UVa email
  • Choice 2 “Deliver my virginia.edu email to my current UVa electronic mail account or create a new account for me if one does not already exist.“
  • This choice will tell the system to route your UVa addressed email to a UVa Gmail account you already have or route it to a UVa Gmail account you will setup after the Obtain Your Password page gives you a Netbadge/SIS password

7.  Obtaining a Netbadge/SIS Password

  • Once you have the needed IDs
  • Go to http://whois.virginia.edu/scps

  • If all the information you enter agrees with what is in the system you will be presented with a Netbadge/SIS password for you to use.
  • Be sure to carefully record this password (they are case sensitive)

8.  I got an error message

  • Upon entering the information in the Obtain Your UVa Password page, if you get an error message

9.  If you receive your Password

  • Be sure to carefully record this password (they are case sensitive)
